Handwriting Without Tears
We are nearing the end of our letter and numbers unit and soon will be moving on to shapes and colors. You can encourage letter recognition through reading! Books are an important part of a child’s life and should be introduced as early as possible. By reading to young children, we inspire them to learn to read and continue reading as they get older. Books should be read with enthusiasm and plenty of expression.
Children love to read and enjoy interactive reading. Children love to point out items on a page, predict what will happen, repeat a rhyme or even act out part of a story. Parents can promote their child’s love of reading simply by reading to their children at home. A love of reading can also come through building a home library, giving books as gifts/rewards, and visiting the local library. A more creative way of fostering reading is to help children create their own books or tell/act out their own stories.
Remember, you are their model! When your child sees you reading, they will want to do it too!
Happy Reading!
